CS 1.6 JailBreak — Guards, Prisoners, Warden Commands
How JailBreak works in Counter-Strike 1.6 — CT guards vs T prisoners, warden orders, mini-games, LR rules, rebellion mechanics and popular maps.
Updated: 2026-07-30
JailBreak (JB) is Counter-Strike 1.6's roleplay-lite mode. Counter-Terrorists play prison guards; Terrorists play prisoners in orange uniforms. The whole thing is loosely modelled on a maximum-security prison day: warden gives orders, prisoners obey (or rebel), the day proceeds through a sequence of mini-games and events, and the round ends when one side wins.
JailBreak has been continuously hosted on non-Steam CS 1.6 since ~2005 and is one of the largest EU/CIS server communities.
Team roles
| Role | Team | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Warden | CT (Guard) | Main authority — gives orders over voice, decides events, controls day flow |
| Regular Guards | CT | Enforce warden's orders, watch for rebellion, escort prisoners |
| Prisoners | T | Obey commands, participate in mini-games, look for rebellion opportunities |
There's typically one warden per round. Any CT can claim it with a chat command (e.g. !warden, /w, !claim) if no one else has.
How a round plays out
- Round start — Ts spawn in cell block, CTs spawn in the guard area. Cells auto-open after 10-15 seconds.
- Warden claims — first CT to claim gets microphone priority and command authority.
- Day starts — warden types a command (
!day,!warday,!freeday) or gives spoken orders. - Compliance / rebellion — prisoners either follow orders (safe) or rebel (open combat).
- Mini-games — the day includes 1-3 mini-games (see below).
- LR (Last Request) — the last surviving prisoner gets to choose a special 1v1 duel with a CT.
- Round ends — all prisoners dead (CTs win), or all CTs dead (Ts win by rebellion), or timer expires.
Standard warden commands
Given verbally over voice chat. Common ones:
- "Freeze" — all Ts stop moving; anyone still moving can be shot.
- "Crouch" — all Ts must duck.
- "Follow me" — Ts single-file behind the warden.
- "Rebel" — cancels prisoner rights; open combat.
- "Go to the pool" / "Go to the armory" — location commands.
- "Line up" — Ts stand in a specific configuration for a mini-game.
Warden abuse (bad calls, contradictory orders) is a common admin issue and rules vary per server.
Days / events
- Freeday — no orders given. Ts can do anything except pick up guns. CTs still shoot rebels.
- Warday — full open combat. Both teams try to eliminate the other. No orders, no mini-games.
- Riot day — Ts get free weapons; CTs get armor bonus. Chaotic team fight.
- Hunger Games day — free-for-all with weapon crates spawning across the map.
Mini-games
Every JB server has its own rotation. Classics include:
- Simon Says (Simón dice) — warden calls actions with the "Simon says" prefix; disobeying loses.
- Deagle 5v5 — 5 CTs vs 5 Ts, Deagles only, one round elimination.
- Race — Ts race across a specific path; last two die.
- Spleef — Ts stand on blocks that get shot out from under them.
- Trivia — Ts answer warden questions in chat; wrong answers die.
- Last reaction — Ts crouch/jump on cue; last to react loses.
- Follow the leader — Ts must exactly mimic the warden's movements.
Rebellion mechanics
Prisoners become rebels by:
- Picking up dropped weapons
- Attacking any CT
- Disobeying explicit warden orders (varies by server)
- Entering restricted areas (armory)
Once a rebel, prisoners can be shot on sight by any CT — no more warden protection.
Last Request (LR)
The last surviving prisoner picks a 1v1 duel with a CT of their choice. Common LR options:
- Deagle Toss — deagle-only 1v1 with reduced ammo
- Knife Duel — knife-only
- Gun Toss — spinning at each other in a small arena
- S/D (Shot for Shot) — take turns shooting each other, best of 3
- Russian Roulette — text-command chance game
Winning LR wins the round for T-side. Losing wins it for CT.
Popular JB maps
Every JB map is a custom prison layout. Prefix is jail_ or ba_jail_.
- jail_castle — medieval castle prison
- jail_electric — modern high-tech, electric traps
- jail_bank — bank vault prison
- jail_lego — LEGO-styled colourful map
- ba_jail_california — beach-themed prison
- jail_area51 — sci-fi military base
- jail_summercamp — outdoor camp theme
Serious JB servers rotate 20-40+ custom maps.
Server-specific rules
Each JB server has extensive rules pages (often 3-5 pages of moderation policy). Universal:
- No freekilling (killing without cause) — instant ban
- No mass freekill — CT killing >2 innocent Ts in a round is often permaban-worthy
- No delaying — last T stalling to run out timer
- Warden must give clear orders — abuse mitigation
- English/native language for warden — server-locale specific
Why it's popular
- Voice roleplay — the microphone is the game. Comedic wardens carry entire rounds.
- Asymmetric variety — CTs need coordination, Ts need timing.
- Long social sessions — 3-hour JB sessions are common, players bond over the roleplay.
What next?
- Deathrun — asymmetric trap-runner mode with similar 1-vs-many structure
- Zombie Plague — the other big non-Steam community mode
- Console Commands — voice_scale, hud_fastswitch, and other JB-relevant tweaks
